As you no doubt know, Alabaster must be properly quarried and cared for. Ours is not dynamited within 5 miles of the quarry. It is painstaking plucked by backhoe, often in very large boulders on a private ranch. Each covered by the native clay which naturally separates them. Each piece is checked for fractures before shipping to ensure a quality product is delivered. Some varieties of alabaster are more translucent than others. It is used by both beginner and professional carvers because of its versatility and its wide range of colours. Cardinal Stoneworks carries about 40,000 pounds of inventory at any given time. It is a calcareous substance mined in the surrounding area that has been widely used for millennia since the Etruscan craftsmen carved it to obtain urns to keep the ashes of their dead.
