Graces Versus Muses - By Mark Chatterley
These larger-than-life ceramic figures with their lava-like glazes seem to have risen from the center of the earth. Their primordial presence feels like the creation of an ancient god of fire. One might expect to find this silent group in the lush grass of a Pacific island or on an African plain. Despite their earthy, powerful appearance, these figures possess a primitive grace. The artist, Chatterley, built a kiln specially to accomodate these large sculptures and then set himself free to explore "the archetypal images that transcend culture and time."
