Bowl of Elindil - By Ben Carpenter

Both dinosaur skulls and garden squash inspire this carved bowl. It can sit as a bowl or stand on its snout. Each spike tip has been burned with a torch to give a faded natural accent. The spikes circumnavigate the body in a changing arc and culminate near the tip. A thin web of natural edge offsets the bowl side of the piece and creates an intricate path through the wonderfully random burl grain. As with most of my work, this piece is pleasurably tactile.
