- June 17, 1999: I own a magnificent wood
sculpture (maple burl) of a reclining lion, done by Leon Osborne. I am in search
of information about caring for the piece. e.g., should I occasionally apply a
light coating of vegetable or lemon oil to prevent cracking? Can anyone respond.
Thanks. Bruce Boston bbwordsmit@aol.com

- June 1, 1999: Sugar Pine: Can you
tell me if there is a demand for sugar pine? I have a one man mill
and ran across several trees. A friend told me that wood carvers use this
kind of wood. Thanks, Vance vadam@shasta.com
- June 1, 1999: Storing and Curing Wood:
Dear Richard, I have a question for you. My husband and I live
in the Antelope Valley in California (Palmdale area). My husband
loves wood and he is collecting surplus cut trees from various
people. We have a lot of cottonwood out here (we are in the desert),
but he is accumulating oak and walnut from other sources too. He is
stacking the cut trees in the open sun and air of the desert and wants to sell
them for firewood. I am a wood lover, and I would like to know how
we should store cut oak, walnut (and maybe some other fine woods) if they are to
be used by sculptors. If you could advise me or direct me to pertinent
information, I would be most appreciative. asadfarr1@earthlink.net
- April 1999: Lighweight Logs: Hi
and thanks for being you, I'm looking for a lightweight wood like balsa wood.
I'm looking for 6" diameter round balsa logs or something close. I want to
recreate the look of pueblo logs that come out of a wall like the adobe style
homes. Can you help or direct me? Real logs are too heavy to mount on this
particular wall. Thanks, Clark mcshep@worldnet.att.net
